A very warm welcome to Woodpecker Class
Allotment trip
The children had a wonderful day at Skool Beanz Allotment in Chilthorne Domer. We spent the day learning about how plants grow and how we can help to care for our environment. The children were able to explore the allotment, including the secret den, which was very exciting! They all enjoyed seeing the giant bug hotel and the community orchard. We had a picnic lunch in the park before taking on the important job of planting the sunflowers for the sunflower patch. We can’t wait for photo updates to see them grow into a beautiful crop of flowers!

Snail Racing!
As part of our forest school lesson this week we learnt that there is a “sport” called snail racing! The children loved watching the world championships. We then hunted our own racing snails, looking in damp dark spots to find them. We carefully labelled them and carried them to our race track, before starting the race! There were a few false starts, some sleepy snails and some that went in completely the wrong direction, but our winners were eventually crowned, before being returned to the safety and peace of the hedges.

An alien spaceship has crash landed into our school!
In year 1 English we are reading 'Beegu', we used this invasion scene to support our creative writing.

We made Commemorative medals in honour of VE day.

FESTIVAL OF DANCE 2025
The children in year 1 worked so hard with Keri from Keri Hill Dance to learn a fun and energetic routine to Daddy Cool. Some of the children then attended the Primary Festival of Dance 2025 at Westlands Entertainment Centre. It was a long day, with technical rehearsals and a late night, but the children were incredible! They represented the school brilliantly, with confidence, style and big smiles on the stage. Their behaviour was impeccable and we received many compliments. Well done team Kingfisher and Woodpecker!
